Castle Hill Cafe Closes?

June 27th, 2008

I am devastated.  Castle Hill Cafe was my favorite restaurant in the world, comparing food quality and price.  You couldn’t find a better meal anywhere for less money.  They’re tagline was actually “Affordable Fine Dining,” and they lived up to that slogan.  Even bottles of wine were priced at a 25% markup rather than the typical 100% to 200%.

Anyway, if you are in Austin this weekend, try to find time to squeeze in (I’m sure it will be packed).  It’s well worth it.

Here’s the report and explanation from the Austin-American Statesman:  Castle Hill Cafe Closes

Father’s Day

June 15th, 2008

Today is the day we remember what we are fighting for.  Fathers all over America will reflect on how important their families are to them and that the reason we work so hard every day of the year is to provide a better life for our families.

It is also important to remember that spending time with our children is important to their development.  Spend as much time with your kids as you can throughout the year so that they learn the importance of family.

Take time now to plan a trip with your family that everyone will enjoy.  Take them to Washington DC or New York City to see the attractions that relate to our country’s history.  Take them to the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone or Yosemite or Niagara Falls to see the natural wonders we are blessed with.

Superbowl Commercials Ratings

February 4th, 2007

Here’s a link to our reviews of the Superbowl XLI commercials.  Overall, we were disappointed with the quality, but there were a few gems.  We give Coca-Cola props for having the most professional commercials overall.  E-Trade came out with two great ones to stay on top of the all-time rankings.  Budweiser and Bud Light had some good ones, too.  Our overall favorite this year was ”Robot Nightmare” from GM.  Enjoy the ratings:

Prince Halftime Show

February 4th, 2007

Prince put on a decent show.  It’s hard for a musician to do much by themself on a stage in the middle of a football stadium.  Sounding good is a must, obviously, but visually it’s hard to make much of an impact without an army of people or lights.  A great illustration is the Cirque du Soleil performance before the game.  Very inspiring in bits and pieces, but it didn’t do much to create visual images for the crowd.  Prince, however, is a great performer, so the show was excellent.  There are few recording artists who could have done a better job.  Kudos to CBS for selecting Prince.

Marino & Esiason

February 4th, 2007

We watched part of the Superbowl XLI pre-game show, and were quite appalled at all the discussion about folks who never won a Superbowl and what that means.  The most shocking was Shannon Sharpe’s comment about how your career is defined by whether or not you win a Superbowl, all the while sitting between two guys who are Hall of Fame quarterbacks who never won a Superbowl.  Marino and Esiason should have just punched him.

Devin Hester returns the kick?

February 4th, 2007

Wow.  Are you kidding me?  How do you not (a) kick away from that guy; and (b) smother him if he accidentally does catch the ball.  Unbelievable that the Colts are already in a 7-point hole.  We picked the Bears to win Superbowl XLI, but we also discussed the fact that we didn’t think there was much chance of Hester scoring in this game.  Oh, well.

Superbowl Commercials

February 4th, 2007

Well, another year has gone by, and we’re back and ready to watch the Colts and Bears in Superbowl XLI.  It should be a good game, but of course we will be watching the commericals just as closely.  Stay tuned to get our thoughts on the best and the worst of the Superbowl commercials, right here at Galago.net.

Dallas Cowboys - Seattle Seahawks game

January 7th, 2007

One of the most bizarre NFL games I’ve ever seen had two really weird things happen that you might not have noticed.

First, an offensive lineman for Dallas got called for holding or a false start or something.  The cameras came in for a close up of him, right when he shot the finger to the referee by pretending he was adjusting his facemask with his middle finger.  It was quite funny.

Secondly, Roy Williams intercepted a ball, and as he was jogging off the field, he pulled down on the collar of his jersey to reveal some sort of a logo on his chest under his jersey.  I couldn’t tell what the logo was, so if anyone knows, please leave a comment.

I feel sorry for Parcell’s and Romo, not because they lost, but it must be really tough to get knocked out of the playoffs in that way.  Well, I guess there’s always next year!

Video Game Mania

December 16th, 2006

I never cease to be amazed by the “panic” over video game systems this time of year.  I’ve heard stories of folks buying and selling game systems and accessories on eBay, waiting in line at stores, and driving to multiple stores trying to find the last system on the market.

While I still haven’t tried the Nintendo Wii, I love the idea of a lower-priced system that is fun for the whole family.  I have a feeling that it is going to dominate the market in coming years.  The XBOX 360 is definitely an upgrade, but I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t much better.  I also think it’s a shame that it doesn’t come with any games.  The Sony Playstation 3 definitely has the best graphics of the three new systems, but I haven’t had the chance to check out the overall playing experience.

The funniest thing to me is that the age group that these systems are marketed to seems to get older and older.  When I was a kid, people over the age of 30 wouldn’t even think about playing a video game.  Oh, well.

Vince Young

December 11th, 2006

Vince did it again!  The guy has all the talent of Randall Cunningham and Michael Vick, with the leadership ability of Bart Starr and Joe Montana.  Mark our words: Vince will be viewed as the greatest quarterback ever to play this game.  The Houston Texans made a colossal mistake in not drafting him.  The Titans will look back at the 2006 draft as the turning point in their franchise.  They will win a Super Bowl in either 2008 or 2009.  Hats off to Jeff Fisher for turning around a declining franchise.
