Beijing Olympics – 2008

The Olympics are well underway. I haven’t heard another word about pollution or human rights. I have heard quite a few funny stories, such as the singer at the opening ceremonies was lip synching because the girl with the good voice had buck teeth. Also, there have been a few comments about censorship by the Chinese government.

Overall, though, the Chinese seem to be doing a great job hosting the Olympics. I’ve certainly enjoyed the games. All of the facilities look more professional and nice than they have been in past games.

Superbowl Commercials Ratings

Here’s a link to our reviews of the Superbowl XLI commercials. Overall, we were disappointed with the quality, but there were a few gems. We give Coca-Cola props for having the most professional commercials overall. E-Trade came out with two great ones to stay on top of the all-time rankings. Budweiser and Bud Light had some good ones, too. Our overall favorite this year was ”Robot Nightmare” from GM. Enjoy the ratings:

Prince Halftime Show

Prince put on a decent show. It’s hard for a musician to do much by themself on a stage in the middle of a football stadium. Sounding good is a must, obviously, but visually it’s hard to make much of an impact without an army of people or lights. A great illustration is the Cirque du Soleil performance before the game. Very inspiring in bits and pieces, but it didn’t do much to create visual images for the crowd. Prince, however, is a great performer, so the show was excellent. There are few recording artists who could have done a better job. Kudos to CBS for selecting Prince.

We watched part of the Superbowl XLI pre-game show, and were quite appalled at all the discussion about folks who never won a Superbowl and what that means. The most shocking was Shannon Sharpe’s comment about how your career is defined by whether or not you win a Superbowl, all the while sitting between two guys who are Hall of Fame quarterbacks who never won a Superbowl. Marino and Esiason should have just punched him.

Wow. Are you kidding me? How do you not (a) kick away from that guy; and (b) smother him if he accidentally does catch the ball. Unbelievable that the Colts are already in a 7-point hole. We picked the Bears to win Superbowl XLI, but we also discussed the fact that we didn’t think there was much chance of Hester scoring in this game. Oh, well.

Well, another year has gone by, and we’re back and ready to watch the Colts and Bears in Superbowl XLI. It should be a good game, but of course we will be watching the commericals just as closely. Dallas Cowboys – Seattle Seahawks game

One of the most bizarre NFL games I’ve ever seen had two really weird things happen that you might not have noticed.

First, an offensive lineman for Dallas got called for holding or a false start or something. The cameras came in for a close up of him, right when he shot the finger to the referee by pretending he was adjusting his facemask with his middle finger. It was quite funny.

Secondly, Roy Williams intercepted a ball, and as he was jogging off the field, he pulled down on the collar of his jersey to reveal some sort of a logo on his chest under his jersey. I couldn’t tell what the logo was, so if anyone knows, please leave a comment.

I feel sorry for Parcell’s and Romo, not because they lost, but it must be really tough to get knocked out of the playoffs in that way. Well, I guess there’s always next year!

Vince did it again! The guy has all the talent of Randall Cunningham and Michael Vick, with the leadership ability of Bart Starr and Joe Montana. Mark our words: Vince will be viewed as the greatest quarterback ever to play this game. The Houston Texans made a colossal mistake in not drafting him. The Titans will look back at the 2006 draft as the turning point in their franchise. They will win a Super Bowl in either 2008 or 2009. Hats off to Jeff Fisher for turning around a declining franchise.
